The F-106B Delta Dart, a USAF trainer aircraft, introduced a tandem two-seat cockpit, revised fuselage tank area, and Hughes AN-ASQ-25 fire control system akin to the F-106A's MA-1. Initially authorized as a trainer version of the F-106A in August 1956, it was later redesignated as the F-106B, offering a two-seater with the F-106A's combat capabilities. Production began with the third F-106A contract, and the definitive contract was finalized on 3 June 1957. A total of 63 F-106Bs were manufactured.
